Contributing to Merakey AVS

Medicaid funding is our primary source of support and covers our operating costs such as housing, food, utilities, medication, program services, and the salaries of staff providing care and treatment to the individuals in our care. Donations to Merakey Allegheny Valley School (Merakey AVS) are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. There are numerous ways to contribute to Merakey AVS:
Capital Development Fund
Merakey AVS relies on private support to cover the start-up costs associated with new program development, property, renovations, equipment and more.
Restricted Support
Donors are welcome to designate their contribution for use at a particular location or for a specific project. To restrict a gift for a particular use, written instructions from the donor are required. If using our online donation form, use the "Other" box to type in the specific location or project in the space provided.
Memorial and Honorary Giving
The Memorial and Honorary Giving Program offers you a meaningful way to extend condolences and/or congratulations to friends and family members while also helping Merakey AVS. Memorial and Honorary gifts are applied to the Capital Development Fund and used for the area of greatest need, unless otherwise requested by the donor. To restrict a gift for a particular use, please see Restricted Support.
Matching Gifts
You may be able to double or even triple your donation to Merakey AVS through a Matching Gifts Program. Many corporations offer such programs to their employees and retirees. Check with your employer to find out if it offers a Matching Gifts Program that will enable you to greatly increase your gift to Merakey AVS.
In-Kind Donations
Do you or your company have tickets to a show or sporting event that can't be used? Do you have equipment that you think might be useful to Merakey AVS? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please call our Development Department at 412-299-7777 or send us details of your items using our online contact form. What you may not be able to use anymore could be just what we're looking for!
Volunteering
If you or your community group would like to get involved with Merakey AVS, please complete the online contact form and include details of your proposed volunteer project.
The Legacy Society

United Way/SECA
Your gift to the United Way or through the State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA) can be directed to Merakey Allegheny Valley School. Unless donors specifically indicate Merakey AVS, no funds will come to us.
To designate Merakey AVS, simply locate the section on the pledge form that allows you to name a specific agency to receive your contribution. Write in Merakey Allegheny Valley School's name and agency code (see below) in the space provided.
Your contribution will be applied to our Capital Development Fund to help cover expenditures such the purchase of much needed equipment, renovations and improvements to our facilities, and to expand our programming.
